Who Announced the Idea of Forking the Tool B2 and Developing WordPress Over His Blog?

In early December of 2013, Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder and CEO of WordPress, announced on his blog that he was considering forking the popular open source content management system (CMS) tool, Tool B2, in order to develop WordPress over its own independent code base. Mullenweg’s announcement generated a great deal of excitement and speculation in the blogosphere, with many wondering what new features or enhancements WordPress could potentially gain from such a move.

Shortly after Mullenweg’s announcement, the WordPress team released a blog post confirming that they had indeed forked Tool B2, and were already working on a new version of the WordPress core code base that would be based on the Tool B2 code base. The new WordPress version, codenamed “Branch A”, was released in early January of 2014 and featured a number of enhancements, including improved performance and support for custom post types.

While the Forking of Tool B2 may not have led to any revolutionary changes in the history of WordPress, it did demonstrate Mullenweg’s commitment to the WordPress community and his dedication to continued development and innovation. In addition, the Forking of Tool B2 also served as a reminder that the WordPress code base is open source and available for anyone to use and modify, so long as they adhere to the WordPress ethos of open source collaboration.
