What Is Placeholder Image in WordPress?

WordPress uses placeholder images to help you identify which image will be used for a post or page. Placeholder images are small images that are used to represent the full-sized image that will be used for a post or page.

When you create a post, WordPress automatically sets the placeholder image to the image of the post title. When you create a page, WordPress sets the placeholder image to the image of the post’s title plus the page slug.

Placeholder images are helpful when you want to preview a post or page before you publish it. You can also use placeholder images to test how your site looks with different images.

When you’re ready to publish a post or page, you can replace the placeholder image with the full-sized image.

Placeholder images are stored in the wp-content/uploads directory. You can view the placeholder images for all posts and pages in your blog by using the WordPress media manager.
