How Do I Category a WordPress Post?

When you write a post for WordPress, you’ll likely have to decide how to categorize it. There are a few options, but the most common is to use categories.

Categorizing with Categories

To category a post, first you’ll need to create a category. Go to the Posts screen in WordPress and click on the Add New button.

In the Category field, type a category name. You can also use the search bar to find a particular category, or use the dropdown to select a category from a list.

Once you’ve created a category, all of your posts will be automatically sorted into that category. To change a post’s category, go to the Posts screen and select the post you want to change.

In the Categories field, type the new category name.

Adding a Category to a Post

If you want to add a category to a post yourself, rather than having it automatically assigned, you can do so by entering the category name in the Categories field when you post the article.
