How Do I Add a Parent Category in WordPress?

Adding a Parent Category in WordPress
Parent categories are a great way to organize your posts and pages in WordPress. When you create a new parent category, WordPress creates a new index file called wp-categories.php and sets the category ID to 1. All of your posts and pages in that category will be listed in the Categories menu, and any posts and pages in subcategories will be listed in the subcategories menu below it. You can also use the wp-categories.php file to create custom menus. To add a parent category in WordPress, follow these steps: 1. Log in to your WordPress site.
2. Click the Posts menu item.
3. Click the Add New Post button.

4. On the Post Type screen, select Article.
5. On the Article screen, enter a title for your article, and then click the Publish button.
6. On the Categories screen, under the General tab, click the Add Parent Category button.
7. In the Add Parent Category dialog box, enter a title for your new parent category, and then click the OK button.
8. Your new parent category will be listed in the Categories menu, and any posts and pages in subcategories will be listed in the subcategories menu below it.
