What Happens if You Change the Permalink in WordPress?

If you change the permalink for your WordPress blog, what happens?

WordPress automatically updates the permalink for your posts and pages. If you have published a post or page with a specific permalink, WordPress replaces that permalink with the current one when you publish or update the post or page.

If you don’t want WordPress to automatically update the permalink, you can change the permalink for a post or page in the Publish panel. To do this, click the Publish button, click the post or page you want to edit, and then enter the new permalink.

If you delete a post or page with a specific permalink, WordPress deletes the post or page and sets the permalink to an empty string. WordPress doesn’t automatically update the permalink for posts or pages that have a permalink that’s empty string.
