How Do I Make a WordPress File Writable?

Making a WordPress file writable can be a handy tool for users who want to customize or extend a WordPress site without having to re-install the software. However, before you can make a file writable, you first need to determine whether or not the file is actually writeable.

To do this, use the file permissions feature of Windows or macOS.

On Windows, open the file explorer and navigate to the folder where the file you want to check is located. Right-click the file and select Properties from the menu that appears.

On the General tab, look for the Permissions section and click the File Sharing tab. In the Share permissions for this file section, check the box next to “Allow write access for the following users.”.

If you’re using macOS, open the file system preferences by clicking the Apple menu and selecting System Preferences. Click the Sharing icon and then click the File Sharing tab.

In the Share permissions for this file section, check the box next to “Allow write access for the following users.

Now, you can confirm whether or not the file is actually writable by attempting to write to it. If the file is writeable, the writing process will fail with an error message.

If the file is not writable, you will be able to write to it without any problems.
