Are WordPress Plugins GPL?

WordPress plugins are released under the GPL, but there are always exceptions. The GPL is a free software license that requires that any software that uses GPL code be released under the same license.

GPL code is often used in WordPress plugins.

Some plugin authors release their plugins under the GPL without any restrictions. Others release their plugins under a license that has conditions that must be met in order for the plugin to be released under the GPL.

For example, the plugin author may require that the plugin be released as open source code.

When a plugin is released under the GPL, the plugin’s source code must be made available to the public. The GPL also requires that any changes made to the plugin’s source code must also be made available to the public.

The GPL does not require that all WordPress plugins be released under the GPL. However, if a WordPress plugin is released under the GPL, the plugin must be released as open source code.

If a WordPress plugin is not released under the GPL, the plugin’s source code must be made available to the public if the plugin is updated or modified.
